Champaign, Rantoul, Unity, Urbana Teachers Post Videos to Raise Spirits, Connect with Students

We’re all trying to do our best to stay connected with one another during this time. And if there’s one thing most of our parents can agree on after experiencing a lot of time home with our school-age kiddos: teachers are definitely superheroes.

It should come as no surprise that those teachers are seeking creative ways to stay connected with students. Earlier, we reported on Mahomet-Seymour elementary teachers driving – caravan style – past their students’ homes.

This week, many Champaign-Urbana area teachers took to digital media – Facebook and YouTube and other platforms – to share some thoughts, or even some silliness, with their students and their families. Sometimes they read stories, or just tell their students how much they miss them.

One thing is clear: these teachers clearly value the relationships they have with students. We’re lucky to have committed educators across our communities.

Here, we’ve put together some of our favorite videos from across YouTube and Facebook. Know of a video we should add? Email us: editor@chambanamoms.com or message on Facebook.

Katelyn Shamhart, first grade teacher, Bottenfield Elementary, Champaign.

This can be found on YouTube. Can’t go wrong with a dancing dinosaur:

Edison Middle School, Champaign

These 7th grade teachers might become TikTok famous after all (and another dinosaur sighting). This can be found on YouTube.

Tissue Alert: Dr. Williams Elementary, Urbana

This one really got me (maybe I’m the only one who needed tissues … just beware.) Thank you to the amazing team at Dr. Preston Williams Elementary in Urbana for this beautiful video of you all singing. Loved seeing your pets, too – and not just cats and dogs (spoiler alert). This is also on YouTube.

Unity West Elementary

OK, so this song may be the very same one that saw in the above video from Dr. Williams Elementary in Urbana – but we couldn’t resist the passing of the hearts. <3 (Vimeo)

Art Walk in Rantoul

This is a very creative idea – an art walk in the hallways of Northview Elementary in Rantoul. With buildings now shuddered, students got a chance to see their artwork on camera – and more people can see their creations. (Facebook)

Mr. Odum, the art teacher at Carrie Busey Elementary in Champaign, has posted ideas for things to do at home via YouTube.

Mr. Ryan Learning

Urbana Early Childhood School’s Mr. Ryan created his own YouTube Channel. (This is just one of the videos.) Great for preschoolers up to first grade. Check it out!

Wiley principal Dr. Jennifer Heinhorst has her own channel now, too! She is reading books to kids.

More from Champaign Unit 4 Schools: Westview Elementary teachers sing What a Wonderful World to their students
